It's so nice to sit outside and enjoy the warmth of the sun and this summer has certainly given us the warmth that we all enjoy. As usual about two weeks into the heat everyone is wishing for cooler weather. Now as August comes to an end and the nights are getting cooler and we all know that fall is in the air it's time to take advantage of the time left that we can still sit in the sunshine and stitch.
For me I have had the pleasure of once again hosting the Stitching Sisters in my home for the month. We have gathered every Wed. for stitching, laughing, storytelling and just having a great time outside till it gets too dark and swimming on those really humid days. Some of us have actually done some stitching. I hope my Stitching Sisters have enjoyed it as much as I have.
My favorite place this summer has been my deck where I have gone to stitch in the shaded part with a soft breeze blowing in to keep me from totally melting. It's a lovely spot just to relax and think about all the projects that I want to do and when I'm going to find the time to do them all.
Last weekend it was my family reunion north of Barrie and it was a wonderful time. We reminised about how long we have been doing the reunion and it is somewhere around 40 years. Now some of the children that we watch running around and jumping in the pool are the age of when I started with my parents going to the first reunion all those years ago. We reminised about the games with played back then with water balloons and potato sack races. All the food. Of course it was fresh and homemade with a BBQ on the side for hamburgers and hotdogs. For my family it was always about the homemade pies. Maybe that is also why my side of the family has the weight problem.
I and my sister and brother and cousins are now the oldest generation of the reunion and we watch and enjoy the day wondering how long this will continue after we are gone just as I imagine our parents did when we were younger. We don't really have any group pictures but we have lots of candid shots that write into history the small capsules of time for future generations.
Family, friends and neighbours are really what life is all about and I hope as I have enjoyed my summer with the best of them I hope you to have done the same.
Happy stitching everyone and a happy and safe Labour Day weekend coming.
Keep on Stitching, one thread a day. Pennie
